Mediation Pilot Program
The New Jersey Division of Taxation has recently annouced a new initiative titled the Mediation Pilot Prrogam. The program which is scheduled to commence on October 1, 2025, will offer businesses/taxpayers a new option designed to provide businesses with an opportunity to quickly and with finality, fully resolve their state tax controversies.
Currently, the pilot program is available for Sales & Use Tax (S&UT) and Corporation Business Tax (CBT) types of tax controversies which meet or exceed $5,000.
The mediation program is intended to provide businesses with an opportunity to resolve their respective audit assessments, tax refunds, and/or other issues without incurring all of the substantial costs generally associated with the filing of a Protest/Conference and/or a Tax Appeal with the NJ Tax Court. While there are several additional key points to consider, it does appear that this opportunity may be of significant value!
